2018 2nd Place winner for English brown ale at the q1 carolina quarterly brew off

Piloncillo is unrefined whole cane sugar which is a solid form of sucrose derived from the boiling and evaporation of sugarcane juice. The name piloncillo means "little loaf", because of the traditional shape in which this smoky, caramelly and earthy sugar is produced. It has far more flavor than brown sugar, which is generally just white sugar with a small amount of molasses added back to it.

El Catrin (The Dandy) is the 4th card in the Loteria deck. He is represented by a well-dressed, refined man with a cigarette, gloves, and a monocle. We chose this card to represent our Brown Ale because we feel the piloncillo adds an air of elegance and refinement to this traditional style.

El Catrin Piloncillo Brown Ale is a Northern English Brown Ale with a little something special. We’ve added a good amount of Piloncillo to this delicious brew. Expect a subtle sweetness with some smokiness in the back. Reminiscent of a sweet crème brûlée.
